Who Rents Long-Term
Most people searching for a long-term car rental in New York are in one of a few situations. If any of these sounds like you, this page was built for you.
Insurance is covering a rental while your car gets repaired. You need something reliable for 2 to 6 weeks without getting gouged at a chain.
You moved to New York, you're figuring out car ownership, or you just sold your car and haven't bought the next one yet. A month-to-month rental buys you time.
You're in New York for a project, a contract, or a training rotation. Public transit doesn't cover it and renting by the day adds up fast.
You're in the area for 2 to 6 weeks and need your own wheels. Not a weekend car, a real-life car you can rely on daily.
The Vehicle
This is a 2021 Hyundai Venue. It is not a luxury car. It is a clean, well-maintained, easy-to-park compact SUV that gets good gas mileage and fits Brooklyn streets. That is the point.
The car is cleaned and inspected between every rental. You get a walk-around video at pickup documenting the condition, and the same at return. No disputes, no surprises about the deposit.
Booking Requirements
These requirements apply to all rentals, including weekly and monthly. They exist to protect both sides of the rental.
Be Informed
These are things people sometimes assume are included. They are not, and you should factor them into your cost planning.
Parking in New York City is your responsibility. Street parking, garage fees, and any tickets are on you for the duration of the rental.
The car is rented to you with a full tank. You return it with a full tank. Simple.
No car seats are provided or available. You bring your own.
You must carry your own full coverage policy. We do not provide coverage. There is no daily add-on available — you need an existing policy that covers you as the driver.
Additional drivers are permitted if they are listed on the primary renter's insurance policy. Only drivers covered under the verified policy are authorized to operate the vehicle.
Share your rental dates and pickup details. This takes about 2 minutes.
The form redirects you to Canopy Connect immediately after submission. You will verify your driver's license and confirm your full coverage insurance policy. This takes about 2 minutes and does not require scanning or emailing documents.
Once verification is complete, you will hear back same day during business hours to confirm whether the car is available for your dates. If it is not, that will be the answer you get, not a runaround.
A $50 card hold via Stripe locks in your rental period. This counts toward your $300 refundable deposit. Your dates are not held until this step is complete.
The exact pickup address is confirmed after booking. Delivery to Brooklyn or nearby neighborhoods is available for $75 within 10 miles.
FAQ
What does a monthly car rental in NYC actually cost?
At The Executive Rental, a monthly rental is $1,300 before taxes for 30 days, with 200 miles per day included. Mileage over that is $0.25 per mile. You also pay a $300 refundable deposit at pickup (minus the $50 hold you placed when booking). That is the entire cost, aside from fuel and parking, which are your responsibility.
For comparison: large chains like Hertz and Enterprise list monthly rates in New York City, but those advertised numbers typically do not include mandatory insurance additions, unlimited-mileage upgrades, or location surcharges. The final number from a chain for a 30-day rental in NYC regularly lands between $1,800 and $2,500. Our rate does not change at checkout.
Do I need my own insurance for a long-term rental in NYC?
Yes. Full coverage is required: liability, collision, and comprehensive. You verify your existing policy through Canopy Connect before pickup. This takes about 2 minutes and requires no scanning or uploading of documents.
We do not offer daily insurance add-ons and we do not sell coverage. If you do not currently carry full coverage on your own policy, you will need to add it through your insurer before renting. If you are unsure whether your policy qualifies, message us with the details and we will help you figure it out.
Is there a mileage limit on the weekly and monthly rates?
200 miles per day are included with every rental period, weekly or monthly. Mileage is tracked through odometer photos at pickup and return. Overages are billed at $0.25 per mile.
If you know you will be driving significantly more than 200 miles per day on a regular basis, reach out before booking so we can flag what that would look like cost-wise for your trip.
Can I extend my rental after it starts?
Yes, as long as the vehicle is available for the additional time. Contact directly to check availability and confirm the extended cost before committing to anything. Extensions are confirmed the same way the original booking was: availability check, then payment.
What is the minimum rental period?
3 days. Weekly rates apply to 7-day periods. Monthly rates apply to 30-day periods. If you need something between 3 days and a full week, we can work out the rate directly.
How does the deposit work?
The total deposit is $300, fully refundable. When you confirm your booking, a $50 card hold is placed via Stripe. This counts toward the deposit and holds your dates. The remaining $250 is collected at pickup. The full $300 is returned after the vehicle is inspected at return and confirmed in the same condition. Timing for the return varies by payment method but is typically within a few business days.
Where do I pick up the car?
The pickup location is in Brooklyn, NY. The exact address is confirmed after booking. Delivery to your location is available for $75 within 10 miles of the pickup point.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
The $50 deposit used to hold your dates is non-refundable. If you cancel more than 48 hours before your scheduled pickup, the remaining deposit balance is refundable. Cancellations within 48 hours of pickup are non-refundable. If something comes up, reach out directly and we will work through it.
Is this better than using a rental car chain for a month?
It depends on what you prioritize. The major chains have more vehicles and multiple pickup locations. What they do not have is a flat rate that holds at checkout. By the time airport location fees, insurance additions, and daily extras are stacked, a month-long rental from a chain in NYC is typically $500 to $1,200 more than advertised.
Here, the base rate is $1,300 before taxes. There is no upsell at checkout. You talk to a person, not a ticket system. If that tradeoff makes sense for your situation, fill out the availability form.
Fill in your rental dates and pickup details below. You will hear back same day. If the car is not available for your window, that will be the answer — not a runaround.
